Crowns and Flowers Sampler

Regular price £11.95

This elegant flower garden sampler with its dainty crowns, attentive dogs and hungry little birds is thought to date from the early nineteenth century.

The original stitcher chose to remain anonymous and not date their work, but the style of motifs, colours and linen used strongly resembles samplers dated between 1800 and the late 1830s.

To maintain the feel of the original, we've kept all oddities in this reproduction - be aware that not all the motifs line up with each other or are as symmetrical as you might expect!

The original was stitched in cross stitch over two linen threads on an equivalent to today's 36ct linen, but you could stitch it over one if preferred. Bethany stitched a version over one on 36ct Zweigart Cream linen and turned it into the 6-inch square cushion shown here.

This chart pack includes clear diagrams and step-by-step instructions for you to reproduce the whole sampler, or pull out individual motifs to decorate a pincushion, needle-case or greetings card.
