Nicknamed 'The Alex', Alexandra Arts is an old pub turned fabulous arts venue/cafe in Rugby, Warwickshire. You can often find me and loads of other local artists and makers there for some great shopping, entertaining conversation, coffee and homemade cake - from embroidery to jewellery, printmaking to photography, and watercolours to weaving...there's something for everyone.

Talk

Rugby and District Arts Society invited me to talk about my work on Wednesday 5th July. I was expecting to join them in 2024, but a fellow artist had to pull out so I covered!

  • Title: ‘Creating an embroidered world'
  • Date/time: 7.30pm - 9.30pm BST on 5 July 2023
  • Location: Dunchurch Village Hall, Rugby Road, Dunchurch, Rugby, Warwickshire CV22 6PN
  • Price: Free for members, £5.00 for non-members

Online lecture

I'm thrilled to announce that the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design (SFSNAD) invited me to join their programme of online lectures this spring. I'll be talking about how a fragment of inspiration doodled in a sketchbook becomes a fully-fledged design and booklet of instructions ready for others to stitch - and it's free to join!

  • Title: 'Counted thread embroidery designs - from inspiration to print'
  • Date/time: 10am PST / 7pm BST on 24 May 2023
  • To book: visit the Eventbrite page to sign-up

These events have now closed, but if you'd like me to speak at your local group, e-mail me on bethany@bluecoppice.com

Beehive Trellis in-person workshop

Have you ever wanted to try embroidery but didn’t know where to start? Do you enjoy cross-stitching but wonder what else is out there? Are French knots tying you down? Have you ever wondered how to personalise a piece?

Starting from the basics and working through a wide range of stitches, I'll walk you through the creation of this rose-covered pincushion simply bursting with bees.

Beehive Trellis design by Bethany Hughes from Blue Coppice
